My Lord,

Enclosure No.5

UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG.

COPY.

25th March, 1926.

The needs of the University of Hong Kong have been

carefully considered and I now put forward on behalf of the

University complete proposals for its development and

expansion.

Two new Faculties are contemplated

a Faculty of

Chinese and a Faculty of Science. The capital sums required

for the establishment and maintenance of these two new

faculties are roughly and respectively 1,148,000 and

844,000. Both these figures are exclusive of the cost of

building and equipment. The needs in the se matters are

dealt with under the general head "Buildings".

For the development of the Faculty of Medicine the

additional capital sum required is $1,305,000. This

includes a new Department of Biology and $550,000 for the

construction and maintenance of new medical buildings which

will accommodate among other things the Department of

Biology.

For the development of the Faculty of Engineering

the additional capital sum required is 730,000. This

excludes the cost of constructing new buildings but includes

the cost of the new equipment which these buildings will

require.

For the development of the Faculty of Arts a

capital sum of $1,113,000 is required. From this figure

the cost of new buildings and equipment is excluded.

needs are dealt with under the general heading "Buildings".
